What to Check Before Buying a Used Diesel Generator

A used generator should be inspected as a complete system. Check engine model, serial numbers, oil leaks, coolant condition, smoke, unusual sound and service history.

The alternator output should be tested for stable voltage and frequency under load. Inspect the controller, breaker, wiring, battery charger, radiator and silent canopy.

Ask for a load-test report and confirm which items are included in the quoted price, such as ATS panel, cable, transport and installation.
